What's the sweetest carry size Kimber 1911 ever?

While I readily admit that I may have overspent a bit by purchasing 3 full size Kimber 1911s in the last month, I'd still really like to add a commander length carry size to the collection. I've been looking at old reviews for the Super Carry Pro (c.2010), and I love the look of the "fish scale" slide serrations. (I'm not thrilled with the black slide, so if I were to get one, then I might send it away to be glass beaded for a nice matte stainless.)

That said, what other 4" carry Kimbers should I consider? I'm looking for:

A) No series II safety, please.
B) Prefer stainless, but will consider any color.
C) The more expensive lines with upgraded features.
D) Something with stellar reviews for accuracy and dependability.

A, B, C, and D are my wishlist items. Maybe I can find something that meets all four criteria. Maybe not.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I wish they would have made the Super Carry in a "compact" size. That is, the Pro slide on an Ultra frame. This would be similar to a "CCO" size pistol. I have a Super Carry Ultra that I totally love, but would love it even more if it had the 4 inch barrel. Other than being short an inch on barrel length, it is my favorite pistol. LOVE the feel of the grip in my hand. I have been thinking about buying a Super Carry Pro and seeing if the 4 inch barrel and slide could be swapped onto my Ultra frame. THAT would be my favorite Kimber for carry!

IMHO stainless Pro TLE is the best bang for the buck. If you buy any Kimber higher up the food chain your getting the same gun but paying too much for cosmetic fluff. This will give you the night sights and front strap checkering. If you want a better gun go with the DW Guardian as noted above. Once you start getting into the $1500 range for a Kimber you can get much better guns for that price That said here is a pic of my slightly customized 4 inch pro carry

While I have TLE/RL II that's had a bob job done to it, the ONE Kimber I'm most likely to carry, is my UC II.

With Hogue wraparounds (got rid of the laser), it's practically a pocket pistol, with police/cargo shorts.

Some good EDC choices listed so far. Out of all the Kimber 1911's I own, my favorite EDC has been whittled down to my Super Carry Ultra + in .45 of course. I've got CDP's in both 9mm and .45, but this puppy gives more ammo on board (8+1), full grip, but the convenience for carry with the 3" Ultra upper with a round butt. Seems to me a perfect combination for carry.

The best thing about all this discussion, is that we've got some stellar choices to choose from.

If you are willing to go outside the 1911 box (blasphemy), the Kimber EVO is a nice carry 9mm. It is not a warmed over micro sort of gun. All metal. Single stack. Pretty much jam proof. With any ammo. Light. Stryker fired. Night sights. A variety of magazines of various capacities are available. I like 1911’s. But the gun you are carrying is better than the one you left home because of weight, size etc.

I have an affection for 5” steel guns. Sometimes a 5” steel gun is not the most practical choice.

The one pistol I wish I still owned is the Kimber Ultra Elite 3" it had a super melt job on it shot well carried well and felt good in the hand. I think that gun was made in the late 90's limited production out of the custom shop. Good luck finding it.

I purchased a Kimber Super Carry Pro while I was employed at a Gun Shop/Range-the owner gave me deal on it since it had sat at the store for over 2 years and still had not sold.
I also did not like the KimPro finish as the more I carried the pistol the more the finish was wearing.
I used some Air Craft stripper and removed almost all the finish on the slide and proceeded to 1000 grit wet sand the slide till very smooth.
The slide on the Super Carry is actually stainless steel-I still like it a lot more than the black finish that was on the slide.

^^^ And twice the quality. Kimber made themselves famous in 1996 for offering "everything a Wilson has for $585. Before that you were tied down to a couple of builders or a custom. I did love my original Kimbers, still have one. But now they make and change models so fast I can't keep up. It's insulting that an assembly line gun is selling for the same as a DW.

I was lucky to find an Ultra Carry ii in stainless at a Kimber dealer here in Southern California last month. (not easy to do). So far I'm very happy with it. I picked up a couple Kim Pro Tac Mags as well, nice upgrade. I plan on swapping out the factory rubber grips, and installing a set of tritium night sights and calling it good. I know this model doesn't meet your criteria, but it works well for me. And considering the difficulty in acquiring anything in CA, let alone in these times . . . I'll take it.
