Which Range Ammo Does Your Springfield 1911 Like the Most/Least?

I got my Springfield 1911 Loaded a couple weeks ago and have been shooting CCI Blazer Brass through it, around 800 rounds now. I've had a few misfeeds due, I believe, to the mags that came with it. I bought some right round Kimber mags and have had far fewer issues with them. When I put one in the chamber, by stripping one off the mag, and adding one back to the mag and putting the mag back in, I've had some issues.

Which leads me to my question.

Which inexpensive range ammo does your Springfield 1911 like the most, or the least?

Thanks.

While I dont have a loaded, I have a TRP, my gun has had zero issues with any ammo I've used, including reloads I buy from an old man at the range. I use primarily WWB and Remington 230gr FMJ.

I also use Wilson 47DAB mags.

I use a lot of Blazer Brass because I can get a good deal on it but I can't say I've noticed a difference between that, WWB, Remington or PMC Bronze with the TRP. I only have 1200 rounds through it and I had 3 or 4 misfeeds while using BVAC reloaded ammunition early on, but in hindsight I believe that was due to the crappy factory mags. Since switching to CMC mags about 800 rounds ago, I have had only one misfeed on the first time using a brand new magazine (and a friend shooting the gun).

That's my long winded way of saying that I don't think it makes a bit of difference, so I buy whatever is cheapest and brass, because the ranges I frequent won't allow us to use steel-cased ammo.

My TRP Operator eats anything, so does my Mil-Spec, but my TM is finicky.

My favorite target and plinking cartridge is:

Shoots better, much cheaper.

200gr SWC

4.8 gr of WST

.469 taper crimp

.12-.13 apiece vs .35, can't be beat.

When I want to spend more, I shoot Montana Gold 185 JHP or 200 JFP. Awesome bullets.

I shoot WWB, Remington and CCI Blazer Brass when I'm too lazy to reload. All 3 shoot good in my Springfields and other .45s, but I think the Blazer Brass is the cleanest shooting. Also, I can buy it cheap at Wally World when they have it.

Both of my springfields eat anything equally with no failures here lately the've gotten a steady diet of tula
+1. My Mil-Spec and my XD eat this stuff like it's nothing.. When I went to the range Saturday, I was amazed at all the rusted spent casings on the ground. Steel case seems to be catching on with shooters who go through hundreds of rounds in a weekend.

WWB FMJ, WWB JHP, Rem, Federal, PMC Bronze, and TULammo. Surprisingly, mine love the TULammo and shoot great groups with them, but they seem to shoot dirtier so I dont use TUL very often. I generally use WWB of some sort since I can get them 100 rds for 32 bucks at the local wally world. In the past I shot primarily Federal, but the last box of Federal I purchased seemed to have issues. They wouldnt cycle well in anything, and I am not sure why. I had multiple FTE's and FTF's with them which is odd because I have never had issues with them in the past. I have since quit using them for the most part but will purchase a box on occasion if nothing else is available.

Top choice is WWB by a good margin though.

Actually all of my handguns love the Winchester White Box &/Or Remington UMC Bulk (Green&Yellow Boxes) the best. But I prefer Winchester Wh. box best. Federal has never given me a prob but runs dirtier in my opinion but has never failed either. Pretty much the blazer (alluminum shelled) rounds are horrible but they have never ftf/fte but the cases are too soft in my opinion and they are very dirty n turn my hands black which isnt a big deal but i prefer them not changing. Haha. PMC bronze editions are ok too-no problems as well but dirty too and they look awful outta tha box like blazers and AE do . AmerIcan Eagle is reliable too but dirty too. As far as rimfire - i only use CCI MINI-MAG and Aguilar (I think thats the name-if not its Aguilla or sumthin like that). Those 2 are the beat feeding/cleanest/most reliable running rimfires I have used n I have used alot of them if not all. I think I will do a Ammo thread concerning range/target plinking stuff and a Upper tier thread. Being in LE we use strictly Speer (pistols) loads but have played with just about every manufacturer and most ofthe top manufacturers branded bullets. Now the custom stuff I have only used when with the HRT,SWAT,and Tactical Div's. Mostly Hornady TAP & Lapua stuff (Man I luv n I mean luv LAPUA). Lapua is so consistant and very much a match grade bullet as far as my experience has let me deal with. Anways I am straying as i do alot. Sry. Hope this helps folks cheers

Oh-FYI----One thing I truely appreciate about all of my Sprigfields is that they will eat up all the rounds listed and more. I have yet to encounter a mass production bullet that hasent been able to feed thru any of my springer 1911's. I like having that reliability in knowing if i'm outta ammo n need some to take to the range then, it wont matter what they have on the shelf for plinkin rounds. Thats a nice knowing feeling. Unlike most of my tactical/marksmanship weapons

Guys, good info here, thanks to all who posted!

On the opposite side of the coin here, are there any particular types/loads/brands that you don't recommend using in your 1911's, either due to barrel wear, grime, corrosion, malfunctions, etc? I'd like to know if there's anything I should try and avoid in my new TRP. . .

Thanks!

i'm still breaking mine in but it feeds everything i've put in it so far, im probably one of the few who use hollow points/defense ammo for range/plinking too.
