Who actually makes Charles Daly 1911's?

I'm impressed with the "apparent" quality of work on their 1911's as pictured in their website, but have never held one in my hand. I'm a long time shooter of Colt, Springfield, Para Ord, and STI 1911's and always associated Charles Daly with shotguns...didn't even know they made 1911's until yesterday.

Their website implies that these guns are made overseas, but it doesn't say who makes them. What's the story on that? Who makes the frames, slides and barrels? Is the custom work done here in the USA? Any info on experience with these guns, so far as quality steel, quality of assembly, fit and finish, and general reliability would be most appreciated.

They really look well made in their web site photos. But, having no experience with them whatever, I'm unable to make informed judgements about their desireability as carry or competition shooters.

I like mine

I have a Field Grade gov't 1911-A1 enhanced. I've only had it about a month. So far around 800 rounds through it and not one problem. Extremely reliable. The fit and finish of the gun is very good. Accuracy is good (1 1/2-2" groups at 15 yds). It is a very good value at the street price (new) of $425-$450. If you can get one for less, then you have an excellent value. It's not a Kimber, but it's not $750+ either. I think it's better made than the Norinco, Rock Island Arms, S.A.M., Century Arms, Llama, Firestorm, etc. Of the less expensive knockoffs, I like it the best. Good luck with your decision.:)

Thanks Snipe and Wheezer - that's about 100% more than I knew before. Think what I'll try to do is find the nearest dealer that carries Daly 1911's and get a good look at them. It's likely to be a pretty good drive as we're in a little mountain town about 165 miles from the nearest city big enough to have a Walmart. As long as the nearest dealer is close to a Walmart, the little lady probably won't object to the trip.

Thanks again for the info.

The Rock Islands are made by ARMSCOR also, they're a bit cheaper and the same gun. I have two, love them both.
