Or what is Ronin? I get that “Ronin” is a treatment or style Springfield puts on some of their guns, but what does the word mean? I figured it was a designer or gunsmith named Ronin, but have found no reference to that here or out on the web. Is my Google Fu that weak?

A rōnin was a samurai without a lord or master during the feudal period of Japan. A samurai became masterless upon the death of his master or after the loss of his master's favor or privilege.

So in other words, if you lose a match shooting your Ronin you have to commit seppuku?

At least the Garrison has a cool name. The worst name Springfield ever used was their Loaded Models. Yes I know a gun is always loaded, but that must really have confused the hell out of new gun buyers, especially when they found out they needed to purchase the ammunition separately.

Before "47 Ronin", there was a movie simply called "Ronin", with Robert DeNiro, Sean Bean, Jean Reno, Natascha McElhone. It may also have influenced Springfield's naming of this pistol. Get to about the 3:25 mark.
First thought I had when I saw SA's new pistol name was, "What's the color of the boathouse at Hereford?" (That became a code-phrase in my unit in the early '00s whenever we identified posers, especially in bars in San Diego or overseas).

"It served my country well." The movie had so many great one-liners by DeNiro. Springfield should've named the pistol after this movie.

Old Betsy was a famous musket, a gun needs a name. So when Joe Biden told people in 2014 that all you needed for home defense was a double 12 gauge and you just needed to fire a couple rounds off the balcony to scare off those 8 guys about to invade your castle, I bought one.

Mine is the double 12, J2000, with exposed hammers, 18 inch barrels. I just call it, "old Joe". If I ever use it in a home invasion, I will just claim the old Joe defense. Official acts and statements of a President are said to be US policy, so, shooting over the head of strangers in your yard must be Government policy.

Old Ronin just does not have much pzazz. Old Joe sounds more American ninja.
