I know this is a 1911 forum but this is related to Kimber. I picked up a new Kimber EVO SP (custom shop version) at my LGS today, surprised that they actually got one in, and took it directly to the range. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this new striker fire from Kimber. (I’m never quite sure what I’m going to get with new Kimber products. And yes, I was burned by the Solo). It ran flawlessly right out of the box, no cleaning and a very slight trace of oil. I shot BB 124 and 147 FMJ, some Winchester 115 FMJ Service Grade and 21 rounds of Golden Saber 124+P. In total a little over 200 rounds with no hiccups. It was actually a pleasure to shot. It has a great trigger and I really like the sights. The front sight is an orange dot and it fits snuggly into a perfectly formed rear notch on alignment. Even though I was hurriedly running rounds thru for breakin it was easy to keep everything in a fist size group at 21 feet. It is a really neat package — I like it a whole lot better than my P365. It comes with two 7 round mags and they were a little stiff. Also, I would say the felt recoil at least for me was a little greater than either my P365 or 9mm Shield. Not sure why this is, maybe grip angle and/or recoil spring. But not a problem really for my arthritic hand. Their was no problem loading one in chamber and inserting a full mag for a true 8 rounds. I don’t feel handicapped by just 8 rounds and I’m sure we’ll see some extended mags or +1 in the aftermarket. I always carry one or two spare mags anyway. One more range trip and I can see working this in to my carry rotation. I’ll try to post some pictures later tonight or tomorrow if I can figure out how. It looks a whole lot better in person than the pictures you see. The bottom line is sweet shooter with no reliability issues (so far).

One more thing I forgot to mention. It fits perfectly in my three Shield holsters.

Update: Went to the range today and put another 200 rounds thru the EVO with no malfunctions. (I did field strip, clean and oil it after first range trip). I noticed that the mags with the EVO look a lot like those for my Micro 9's (I have three), in fact they looked identical so I tried them and they functioned fine in the EVO and the mags that came with the EVO also worked in the Micro 9. I had a couple of the new 8-round Micro 9 mags and tried them. They worked fine. This is a bit of good news that I haven't heard before from Kimber.

Another member posted on Kimber forum that Kimber specifically told him when he called that they were not compatible. Yet your post is the second one I've seen that specifically contradicts that. Good to know.

No idea why Kimber would say there are not? Reliability issues in long term testing?

Where are the pictures? There is a tutorial somewhere on here on how to post pictures.

The EVO is slightly larger than the Solo. Also, the Solo mags do not seem to fit the EVO and vice versa. The angle is different with the Solo, a little steeper.

I just handled a friend's EVO this morning. He loves it and put a lot of lead through it with no malfunctions. The magazines look to be the same one that the Micro 9 uses.
