I know this is a 1911 forum but this is related to Kimber. I picked up a new Kimber EVO SP (custom shop version) at my LGS today, surprised that they actually got one in, and took it directly to the range. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this new striker fire from Kimber. (I’m never quite sure what I’m going to get with new Kimber products. And yes, I was burned by the Solo). It ran flawlessly right out of the box, no cleaning and a very slight trace of oil. I shot BB 124 and 147 FMJ, some Winchester 115 FMJ Service Grade and 21 rounds of Golden Saber 124+P. In total a little over 200 rounds with no hiccups. It was actually a pleasure to shot. It has a great trigger and I really like the sights. The front sight is an orange dot and it fits snuggly into a perfectly formed rear notch on alignment. Even though I was hurriedly running rounds thru for breakin it was easy to keep everything in a fist size group at 21 feet. It is a really neat package — I like it a whole lot better than my P365. It comes with two 7 round mags and they were a little stiff. Also, I would say the felt recoil at least for me was a little greater than either my P365 or 9mm Shield. Not sure why this is, maybe grip angle and/or recoil spring. But not a problem really for my arthritic hand. Their was no problem loading one in chamber and inserting a full mag for a true 8 rounds. I don’t feel handicapped by just 8 rounds and I’m sure we’ll see some extended mags or +1 in the aftermarket. I always carry one or two spare mags anyway. One more range trip and I can see working this in to my carry rotation. I’ll try to post some pictures later tonight or tomorrow if I can figure out how. It looks a whole lot better in person than the pictures you see. The bottom line is sweet shooter with no reliability issues (so far).
